Friday, July 30, 1943. Rather rainy this morning but cleared off so I went to West Leb for fish. Got butter fish and mackerel also 15 points of round steak. They seemed to have quite a lot of meat. Afternoon went to the home Market and got quite a lot of stuff as much as I could carry. My little Jeep has not been shipped and Eunice said they would send it right along.
Saturday, July 31. Didn't go out but did a lot of cleaning and made ice cream baked beans and apple pie. Felt pretty well best I have for some time and didn't tire so quickly. CLeaned the pantry and toilet floors and the kitchen floor and waxed it and did a thoro job on all three meaning I moved things and did the whole floor. Must go to bed sleepy.
Sunday, August 1. This is quite a warm day. Guess I did too much yesterday as I dont seem to have much energy left but havn't much to do. Thot Id try the shell beans. Picked a small mess and either picked them too soon or didnt cook them long enough as they were hard guess the later and will cook them longer next time.
Monday, August 2. Did the washing and Richard was mowing the lawn this after dinner so got the clothes in. Was nice day thot id just rest but went out and raked the lawn and did a little work in the garden and killed the first tomato worm.
Tuesday, Aug 3. Did most of the ironing this morning and then afternoon went shopping Had a real smart shower after Richard got home everything still looks green think my beans must be ready to pick soon. Am in hopes I'll have a few string beans and beets that I planted July 29. Have a little more room perhaps I might plant some more if I could find them.
Wednesday, Aug 4. This is a real rainy day but didnt come on very much til after dinner then it just poured most of the P.M. I let down a dress and fixed Richards pants the hem was worn. This a.m. went to W. Leb and got some fish but halibut was hardly eatable. I never get halibut fit to eat got salmon for tomorrow hope it will be better.
Thursday, Aug 5. Looks as if it might rain sometime today. Went over street and called at the express office about the little cart Eunice is sending and while over there it was left on the piazza. Am glad it has come at last but my shopping isn't so much just now I cant get some things I want and it is too bulky to use for small things, but it will be very handy for many things. Wrote Eunice and went again and mailed her letter and did other errands. Had beets and carrots from the garden and made mayonaise for potato and johnny cake and finished the ice cream this is Friday.
That's it for this weeks reading, I am glad that Lena will be able to roll her little cart now instead of carrying her groceries. :) Grandma Donna
