Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Are these the rolling grocery carts that have wheels and a tall basket with a handle on the top? I used to see them for sale at our local grocery store up until probably 15 years ago. My great grandmother had one and loved it.

Andrea, what I have found is the tall basket on wheels with handle during this time. Later they became metal baskets but during the war metal was needed for the war. I do have a picture from the paper during this time that Lena has purchased her "Jeep" as she calls it. I will post that picture in November 19 - 25 diary readings. :)
