About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. End of Lil's diary for this week.. Now on to read Lena's diary.

This is Lena's diary reading Friday, November 19 - Thursday November 25 1943.

Friday, November 19.   Warmer today.  Washed a little and slicked up some should do it everyday.   Didn't go out started a cushion for Richards chair  twice  I did as it is in rags  found some green clothe & will make 2 cushions covers and line them also took off the dirty cover on the oregonal cushion.  Pearl came or Id got it all done.  Richard has trouble in his eyes and infection I think so he is using Dr. Barltons Prescription.

Saturday, November 20.  Did quite a lot today.  Went to Pub Market this morning got 1 lb liver 1 pt and salt pork 1 lb 2 pts   After dinner got a few pork chops for tomorrow  not much meat took my Jeep and went on over street and got sugar  my last til Jan 15 and I have 10 lbs and a little in my can but have use what I want for canning but must get applesauce make jelly soon.

Sunday, November 21,  Sun shines but a very heavy white frost this morning.  Richard tells me Ive been "dumpish"  ever since I came home   At present I seem to have a cold but cant have the house very warm or we will be out of coal.  Perhaps its just as well as I can put on more clothes when it gets colder.  This P.M. is cloudy snow is all gone we only had the ground covered and no sun to melt it.

Monday, November 22.   Snowed all day but no foundation and it is all mixed in with mud.  Did my washing and put it on the piazza so its out of the way.  Cut out fine small aprons this aft. and finished one.  I was all out except some large ones had given me.   Think these will do and easier to wash & iron.  I hope Ill keep on sewing as I have two dresses cut out and cloth for me more and must fix my summer dresses and put them away.

Tuesday, November 23.  Snow again today this morning quite a deep lot come in the night and kept up most of the time all day.  Finished another apron but didn't seem to feel fit and had to lie down after dinner and rest but went down to Public Market and got a roast pork 20 pts  for Thanksgiving and some apples.  Shall have apple pie and make cherry too as Richard likes it.  Could have mince pie but guess it will be enough.

Wednesday, November 24.  This is a day with some sunshine but rather chill Made 3 pies apple mock - cherry and small minie as I had enough crust.  First time I have made a pie for a long time since I came home as I haven't felt hungry for pie.   Stuffed the roast of pork already to cook.  Havn't done the ironing but will try tomorrow.  Pearl came and she went to sleep over the furnace and I got changed and we went over street  I posted letters and did a little shopping.

Thursday, November 25.  The snow is still with us but we had some Sun today.  Did the ironing this forenoon and this P.M. I did a little sewing made Richard and apron to put on taking out ashes. and a little mending hope tomorrow can make the rest of my little apron started on them today.  Had a card from Eunice she is in Georgia and says it is cold but I expect it will warm up.

I was asked if I knew what type of victory wagon that Lena purchased.  Lena calls her "Jeep".  So I went to the microfilms and found advertising for a victory cart, wagon, shopping cart and this is what was being advertised at the time that Lena found advertising or her rolling cart.

End of this weeks diary readings. See you next week.  Grandma Donna
