About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Cart before the Horse

January 7, 2023

This has been quite a week at our house, the new forum started with the new study. Here on my end there were many technical issues which showed up on your end.  We have been trying to iron it all out.

The forum front page looked very confusing I am sure but it is cleaned up now and new topics have been added.

More topics are coming and if you do not see a topic that is important to you, there is a button up top to add a new topic.

Here below are the new discussion topics listed under "The Gathering Place"

Lace Making & Tatting

The Laundry

Pets

Hand sewing

House Maintenance & cleaning

Canning and Food preservation

Grocery Prices

Gardening

Recipes and Cooking

Crochet,  Mending

Knitting

Weather

Sewing for the home.

There are more topics such as, entertainment, reducing expenses and budget.

I apologize for the sloppy manner in which I presented the first week of the study and the forum. I had a few moments this week that I wondered if I should be starting something like this at my age.  Many of you know that we have been doing history studies for awhile now, for some reason my gut feelings have been strong to do this 1930s study.  So no matter how messy it has been, I will continue this study.  I appreciate how so many of you worked through it and have been there to comment and share your memories and ideas and photos. I feel like when you comment you are coming for a visit.

Your comments in the forum have been more important to me than you will ever know because up until this forum, I have never been in a online forum before.  I truly am just a senior citizen, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother that is probably a little out of touch with technology. Whenever I have to learn a new device or change, it is very intimidating to me.

It took me two years to try to use a kindle that was a gift from my daughter. For whatever the reason, many years ago God put me on this path to blog about the past and I will know the answer to this one day.

Before that, I had been doing a lot of genealogy research and it led me to researching far back in history and I became quite a research geek. Now many years later I find myself still blogging about  generations before us and simple living and it seems as important now as it did when I started if not more important now.

When someone mentioned to me that I should do a forum, I had heard about forums, and I know there are many ways of communicating with others but I did not know what a forum looked like or understood what it was about but once again, just like I felt to start writing a blog, I felt I needed to do a forum. Possibly it was not a smart thing to do starting something I did not know anything about but the study was coming soon and I thought it would be good to have up when the study started.  A very dear friend must have seen the train wreck coming and sent me a link to show me what a forum looks like. Then you all showed me when you started taking part and commenting and talking to one another despite it all, I was so taken back by it all.  Thank you so much!

When I started my video slideshow on youtube, I did not think I could do that.  I thought I would never figure out how to use the program to make the videos and had to sign up for a music place to use legal music pieces.  My daughter-in-law encouraged me by telling me that I am doing very good with it all and was actually surprised at how well I was doing with it. I started instagram recently and there is still much I do not understand but I will figure out.

I am saying this in case you see something not right or odd on the forum or blog for that matter, maybe something I have missed. Please tell me by sending me an email.  This week I was editing my draft somehow live, so that happened.  I hope that when I just edited the new forum topic links each one did not go out as individual messages.  I hope not, but I apologize now for that one if it did.  Should you see something that I need to know about, please email me and title it to say something like, "HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM".  That was from a movie made years ago, that I do not know the name of but Charles will say this occasionally if something is wrong.

What I have decided a forum is, or rather what "this new" forum is, is that it is no longer just a blog here, it is all of our ideas and stories you and me.  So at least this forum is for all of us to have a place to gather, to talk, to share pictures, to learn, to teach.  This is the blog I am typing on, the forum is the door that I open and you all come in to visit here together.

The new topic section has just been organized and updated so there are no conversations going on in the rooms at this time as I am writing this.  You can go anytime and jump in if you find something of interest. I hope you like the new Gathering Place topics. Any of you that have skills with these topics please share your expertise with others if you will.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with forums like I have been, please consider joining us.

To find the forum, it is at the top bar on the main page on a computer, click Forum and it will take you to an about page and follow along to sigh up.  On a phone or tablet, in the menu you will find forum and do the same.
