The Shabby Laundress
Life Does Not Have To Be DullWhen my children were growing up I would tell them to be somebody’s sunshine. When they went through their grumpy teen years they disliked hearing this but I said it anyway. I tried my best to make life fun for them so they would have a good childhood. Then they grew up and had their own children and one day my daughter was trying to think of a way to make an occasion fun and she called me and said, Mom, you always made things fun.
I continue on my life journey and I try to make even mundane chores fun.
This is our washtub for the Shabby Cabby. It is a plain washtub that we purchased many years ago and I simply painted it and then put an indoor outdoor polyeurathane varnish over it to protect the paint. It makes me happy to look at it sitting in our kitchen but ready to take trips in the Shabby Cabby.
This is how it is set up to do the wash.
I prefer to just soap up the items and rub them together but......
I do have a washboard to use for the larger and more dirty items.
Several years ago we purchased a hand crank wringer and I must say it is a great thing to have when you are hand washing clothes. The flap that I am pointing to moves back and forth to direct the water back into the washtub or to the other side to drain into a bucket on the outside.
The hand wringer removes a lot of water and is just as good if not better than a spin cycle on a regular washer.
As you can see it removes quite a bit of water from this towel and is ready to hang dry.
