I want to introduce you to our two new Study Diaries.
Emma's diary is a five-year diary and the entries start in 1934. Rose's diary is a one-year diary from 1932. The three diaries we will be following are Sarah, Emma, and Rose.
We have already started Sarah's diary and after much thought about this, I will post Sarah's diary separately on another day than Rose and Emma's diaries.
Emma is a recent widow, and has been without her husband for one year and 4 months when she started this diary.
Even though there is only a small space to write each day, Emma packs it in and she has a very busy life. I picked this diary because it is very interesting and we can continue this diary after the study is over.
Rose is a School Teacher at a small country school. Rose is thirty-five years old and lives at home with her parents, her sister, and her brother. Many references to household work and activities.
This is a pale diary due to age and pencil and this diary is a very small one-year diary also with small space to write.
Both of these diaries will add to our study by giving us a peek into the home and the things they do during this time of the great depression.
I am trying to give everyone time to settle into the 1900s, there is much to adjust in our homes, a lot of re-arranging for some, and many are trying to get their math skills back with figuring out their bills and income. I am working on another post to help with this.
I want to remind everyone we are all taking one day at a time so we can learn all we can about this time during the great depression and we cannot know everything all at once. Once we finish this study, we should be fairly fit, if not worn out. Lol
I also want to say that there is no wrong time to start the study. Anyone can start at any time. You are not late for the study, I will keep adding information as we go along, I am not a teacher and if you have been reading my blog for a while, I am a bit scattered brain :) I get excited and jump around a lot. I am doing everything in my power this time to stay focused.
That brings up a point. Let us all focus this year on what this study is about. Let us think as if we are living during this time, cooking like this time, and doing our household work as if we are in this time.
Charles was all excited this morning as he was reading the 1932 newspaper and he shouted, "Donna! you will never believe this"! This is such a coincidence, would you believe that Southern California (USC) is playing against Tulane in the Rose bowl classic. Also today, present time January 1, 2023, Southern California (USC) is playing against Tulane in the Cotton bowl classic! Do you know that I just thought about if you swap the last two numbers of 2023, you get 2032. :) Lots of excitement he had about this. :)
We do not have a television since we are resembling 1932 so we will not be watching this game. That is okay there is not a dull moment in our house at this time.
I will be posting more often until we get our routine set and the needed information posted so the posts will not be as long as the others have been. I wanted you to know about the two other diary readings that will start this week.
