Last Saturday, Charles and I went up to Madge's house to do some work. We packed two sandwiches and two bananas, a jug of water and a bit of kibble for the girls, (doggies), a small jar of water for the car in case they got thirsty.
It has been a struggle for us to do the difficult work at Madge's house. We are slow at everything we do so we bring our patience with us. Slowly we are chipping away these big projects and one day we will have them finished and be glad we kept pushing through.
This particular day we pulled up the old glued down flat carpet that had been on the floor for over 40 years.
It was sad to see this glue on top of hardwood floors.
If you look closely in the middle of the photo above, you can see where there used to be a wall. Charles has always told me that his father changed the walls in the house and tried to describe how it used to be and now I can imagine this wall that he talks about.
We plan on sanding the floor in hopes to remove the glue and then refinish the floor.
After we finished getting the carpet out and everything swept we headed home complaining of our aches and pains but proud of our accomplishments. :)
On Monday, I groomed Elizabeth and Bernadette. This above is Elizabeth before I started grooming her.
Bernadette was next, you see in her face how she was not happy about this.
Elizabeth said that was not fun at all, but I told her that she looked pretty and she would feel better after she got over being upset.
Bernadette would not look at me. They did have dog sheers in the 1940's some called them barber tools and they used scissors. I was very surprised when I looked up in the old papers of 1940 about dog grooming. There are many articles about this, and it seems that they were very particular about grooming their dogs.
Supper was Salisbury steak, red potatoes with gravy and green beans.
As I am writing this it is Wednesday and Hurricane Helene is spinning into a possibly a powerful storm. It is concerning to have a hurricane this large and this close but we live in a way that we are prepared as we can be for things like this. We are being told to be prepared by tomorrow which is Thursday. If it continues at the forward speed it is on now it looks to be a night storm with the eye of the storm to our east. It is normal for these storms to wobble so we have to look at the whole picture.
If you see the hurricane on the news, we live in Dothan Alabama which is in southeast Alabama and we live only 19 miles from the state line of Georgia and 12 miles from Florida. So we are down in the lower corner of the state.
There will be power outages all over the southeast and possible further up north, so I wanted to get this blog post up today. We have people that come to this blog that are also in the track of this storm and I wanted to say I will be praying for you and when you can, please let me know if you are okay.
I have my favorite hat ready to go to work if needed to clean up limbs that have been pruned by hurricane Helene. I do have a prayer request and that is for if the limbs and or trees fall, to fall in a direction that misses the house, carport, work shop and shed. Oh, and the power poles as well, they need to fall towards the street.
After the storm passes and when I can use my computer, I will post a simple post to let you know that we are okay.
