About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Pick up Sticks

February 10, 2016

The last post I was putting the bread in the oven to bake and this is the bread after removing it from the oven.  I just love homemade bread and even though I make it often I never tire of the warm smell in the house.

My daughter makes bread more often that I do because she is feeding more  in her household and when we go to her house it always has that smell of home and fresh baked bread even if she has skipped a day or two.

Since we have been living a more simple life and setting our home back to when we felt life was more settled and comfortable we have become more accustom now to entertaining ourselves as we did many years ago.

Older games can be quite entertaining and they do not require batteries or charging stations and such. The noise that is made is mostly from laughter or a few choice words.

So just in case you do not remember how to play pick up sticks I will give a refresher course. Gather your sticks and make sure you have all of them.

Now place your hand like this before you quickly let them go.

They should scatter something like this.

Here are the points for the different types of sticks. You see on the far left if you can manage to pick up this spiral stick without making any other sticks move you get 20 points!

The problem is that could be quite a feat to do.

So we start somewhere else that we might be able to remove without making even the smallest movement in the other sticks.

So here are the instructions.....

But there is more...

There are special ways to become skilled at doing this.  Keeping a steady hand is one...

You can use another stick that you have earned to help the stick off another one or "Tip" the stick by pressing down at the other end.

A simple game can make good memories.

Then there is that old deck of cards too....

It is time for lunch so I will go.   Grandma Donna
