About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. My Simple Week

July 16, 2021

Our 1923 Treadle Machine named Clara.

I am not sure how our old singer made it to our house from it's original Norfolk Virginia location. I wish I knew where all it traveled since 1923 but I imagine that Mrs. Carney must have loved this machine. Her name was scratched into the case and the year she received it.

I love the sounds while peddling the old girl as she smoothly sews along.

It has been a simple week full of wonderful finishing projects from sewing, organizing and Charles Birthday.

Here is a picture video of our week that I made for you, I hope I can remember how I did this so I can do more of them.  Just click on this link to watch and when you finish x out of the video to come back to this post.  I am hoping to get this working so it will automatically play next time.

It has been raining so much that the windows will not dry.  A good scrubbing will need to be done when it dry's out.  I wish I could send some of this rain out west where it is so very dry.

Charles worked on Clara's little drawer and put a stop on it so it would not fall out.  We found out that our drawers will lock.  We never knew this and I found a key on ebay and have ordered it.  It is exciting to find something new about and old piece.

This is what her bobbin looks like.  The machine has a mechanical part that I put this in and I start wrapping the thread just enough to hold it in place and then my feet do the rest of the work peddling to turn the belt to turn the bobbin winder.

I have been redesigning my clothing.  This linen/cotton blend dress is so comfortable but the neck is turtle neck and bothers me.  So I removed the neck and cut out a new neckline and hemmed it.

I enjoy wearing it much better now.

So I have another dress that I decided to change the neckline and I removed the sleeves and turned it into a loose jumper and I wear a comfortable sleeved top under it. This dress has wonderfully large pockets and has gathers 3/4 way around the dress to make it interesting.  I wear these around during the day with an apron over them.

We have been enjoying our summer zucchini's and this makes us happy because we thought that we might not get any this year.  They were just slow like us and finally got around to it.

We had just a small amount of spaghetti left over so we diced up a zucchini and sauted it and added it to the warming leftovers.  It was quite tasty.

For Charles birthday, I made him some brownies.  One of his favorite desserts.

With a little bit of imagination and a pair of scissors and needle and thread we can change our clothing to fit the way we would like it to fit.  I am most comfortable wearing jumpers with different blouses or knitted tops under so I may just change a few more.  :)

I hope you all have had a nice, simple week and if not, give it a try next week by making it that way because our home is where we can make changes even if they are small.

I have made an extra video that I made while learning to make videos for you to enjoy.
