I wanted to let you know before we take our One Month Break from Technology that we are going to continue our study of the 1930s after the break and throughout 2026.
We still have much to learn and many people seem to feel as we do, that this study is teaching us many things that we did not expect to learn.
There is something about this 1930s study that just feels right. Most books and old newspapers wrote about the hardships and the terrible times of the 1930s. What we are uncovering is their strengths and what it takes to make a home survive difficult times. First it starts with the people and then the back to basic common sense.
When we are scrolling, they were doing. We need to be doing.
We can still do better with our home management, we have to. We cannot do what others are doing but what we are doing.
It does not matter that we are hanging our laundry all over our house, this is our home. We decide to not take the easy way so we can save money.
We can continue our research into what was going on in the home. This year I did not share much of the research so that you could do the same as I was doing to learn history and dive into the old microfilms, it seems this works well because we all are researching and studying to find out about the 1930s and working at our own pace which is better because this will take a long time to uncover the facts and apply the things that we find helpful.
Also it feels good to do this at a slower pace.
We do have refrigeration today, in the 1930s many still had ice delivery for their Ice refrigerators which were not electric but cooled with ice. They would purchase coupon books and give the coupons to the ice man when delivered so he did not have to take the time to exchange money.
When we think of the old refrigerators, consider what they could store which would have been much less than what we keep in our modern refrigerators.
We will remain living like the 1930s, the 1940s homelife was much the same only they had different kinds of struggles.
It is up to us to find the beauty of the 1930s instead of all of the gloom.
I will miss you all for the month of October, those of you not doing the technology break, the blog will remain up so there are many studies to read about if you want to catch up on the old posts.
I wish you all well with your living more like the 1930s, it might be tempting to throw in the towel withdrawing from scrolling and modern things but that would be normal when trying to break a habit. I hope we will be stronger and living a more present life when we return and I cannot wait to hear from you to find out what you learned during the month of October.
See you back in November. Grandma Donna
