About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Getting Started

August 18, 2016

Getting started can be hard to do if we have not yet figured out where we are going.  Recently an email from one of my blog friends said this after reading my post Sarah awoke and put on her socks.  My blog friend Judi said, "that was the time before others interfered and started people doubting what they did routinely was valid and useful. Once we knew our place in the order of things and just went about our business."

Judi is so right and I have noticed how their is doubting and some people even feel as if they have to explain themselves for wanting to live more domesticated.  This never has to be explained because it is something right to do.

We are losing our basic and common sense, our basic and useful knowledge of how to run a household.

We are either neglecting it or taking shortcuts filling our homes with chemicals.

I feel that cooking nutritious meals is the top of the list of importance for running a household.  For those that eat home cooked meals most of the time know that if something happens, a sickness or something that breaks our cycle and we have to supplement fast food into our diets we feel bloated and unwell. We crave a good home cooked meal.

To get our day started right we roll up our sleeves and start doing what needs to be done.  This particular morning it was time to wash the sheets.

It feels to me once the bed is made the proper order of events is starting to happen.

There will always be laundry, there is no need to think of finishing the laundry, there is no finish line just a temporary rest time.  It is one of those expected chores where we go do it because it is there to do.

There is no reason to hate doing laundry or we will just be miserable because then it will always be pressure to get it done.

I keep small containers of useful products next to the sink to help me with my cleaning.  I feel it is practical instead of decorative.

Our kitchen often has things out of order such as this morning where i washed dishes, removed the burner pans to clean, and have the dish rags and towels soaking in the sink in a bit of grated soap and washing soda.

There will be another meal to cook....

It does not matter what time of day we get started, we are all on different schedules. The main thing is that we do the things that need to be done and we can push aside all the distractions that affect our progress.

My husband sitting down for breakfast before heading out to work.  I put covers over his food, a glass lid over his plate and a beaded cover over his coffee to keep it warm until he is dressed and ready to come to the table.

It is nice to develop routines because it makes it easier for us knowing what to do, we get into a rhythm.  Sometimes our routines are broken when those we love are gone.  We all discover these situations in different ways.

We had routines when our children were growing up.  Then my parents lived with us and we had to adjust with new routines.  Then the house grew quiet when they passed and we had to readjust once again.

What I am trying to say in this post is sometimes we get stagnant, myself included and we have a hard time getting started again. Maybe we are not sure where we are going because things change.  We all need something to look forward to and many find activities away from home that are entertaining and gives them something to look forward to.

When we are home there is much we can do and living an old fashioned life can be interesting all by itself.  I never run out of things to do and that is a good thing because it keeps me moving.

There are chores but then there is sewing and mending, projects we can start and hopefully finish.  Our home is ready for us if we only get started.  Grandma Donna
