We have arrived to a new month and was time to change the tablecloth and accessories this morning. I chose the white crochet tablecloth and embroidered runner in the middle of the table.
I like to add a touch of romance to our home. Romance does not have to be about dating or marriage, it can be dressing pretty or the way we style our hair. It can be about adding romantic touches to our home or making a nice blend of essential oils.
Yesterday I made a pan cover and added weighted beads to hold the cover in place.
I used some vintage flour sack cloth that I found last year at the thrift store. I like the pretty beads around the cloth cover and they are very useful as they help to hold the cloth in place.
I started off by tracing around the pan...
Then I hand sewed a rolled hem... I will post a link to an article I wrote on how to hand sew a rolled hem at the bottom of this post. Then sewed a blanket stitch with number 10 cotton crochet thread.
I crochet a edging because I should have cut the fabric out a little larger..
I crochet chains around the edging..
Then did two more rows adding beads to those chains.
This is one of my very vintage beaded jug covers from England and the lace under it I bought two years ago so I could make some more beaded jug covers. I like to use them for all kinds of things such as put them over our oil lamps to keep the dust out of them. I put them over serving bowls. They can be used over juice glasses if there are gnats in the house so they don't get in the juice. Many years ago these were used over milk jugs to keep bugs out and over containers of food.
Close up of the cloth on the vintage beaded cover.
This is how they drape over the oil lamp globes. The beads weigh them down and they stay in place.
I plan on making some more with the flour sack cloth and will make these for our casserole pans.
It takes a lot of glass beads to do this and the plastic ones will not work because you need the weight of the glass beads. For the beaded cover I made yesterday I used 112 glass beads. It was a small enamel rectangle pan. You can do this too, it is a patience thing to learn new things.
I see romance in the simple and pretty things. A simple cup of peppermint tea this morning.
Picking out some pretty sheets for the bed....
A bit of pear salad with the pretty colors in a pretty bowl...
A warm washbowl bath and using a touch of rosewater after.
Life is more interesting if we stay creative in everything we do. Even the simple things.
It is easier to have a romantic home if we rid our home of clutter and keep those things that make us happy and have a purpose.
