Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Home made curtains are the nice way to add style to the rooms of the house.
These are the kind of curtains I made for our very first apartment. I didn't know much about sewing at the time and didn't own a sewing machine yet, but my sister-in-law let me use her sewing machine and walked me through making the curtains. She later helped me make my first maternity clothes. By the time she and my brother-in-law moved from our state, I had gotten my own sewing machine and made enough things that I went on to make many things for myself and my family. It is such a useful skill to have.
They generally upgrade the look of the rooms of the house.
